Do I need an International Drivers License (IDL)?

Smart Choice recommends you supplement your local driver's license with an International Drivers Permit. An IDL is written in 10 languages and serves as an officially recognized translation of your local driver's license in over 150 participating members of the United Nations. Your IDL should always be accompanied by your valid local driving license. The UN itself does not issue driving permits, but use authorized travel associations to administer the service. A passport-size booklet is administered verifying that the motorist has a valid driver's license from his/her permanent Smart Choice of residence. In reference to travelers from the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa, etc; a driver's license from these locations is acceptable by Smart Choice Rent a Car, however, the Greek Police do not accept these licenses independently, and so you are required that your driver's license must be accompanied by a valid International Drivers permit. You are required for your driver's license to be accompanied by a valid International Drivers permit. You may apply for a IDL at one of the many AAA outlets (The American Automobile Association). The fee is $10.00 USD and it takes only 10 minutes for the procedure to be completed.

What kind of rentals do you have in your fleet?

Smart Choice offers a wide variety of vehicles. We offer economy, compact, intermediate, automatic transmission, full-sized and luxury cars and minivans.

When I pick up the car what do you require of me?

When you pick up your car, you will need to:
(1) Show a valid driving license and any form of ID if required.
(2) Sign the Legal Rental Agreement to accept the standard Smart Choice rental terms and conditions, and insurance coverage.
(3) Payment: what you pre-arrange with reservation

What is the minimum age requirement?

The renter and any associated additional drivers must be a minimum of 23 years of age for all car categories. Each driver must present a valid driver's license in her/his name that has been held for a minimum period of one year. Please review the International Drivers permit section for details concerning foreign licenses.

Where is your main office located?

The main office of smart car hire is located on the north east coast in the large resort Dassia Corfu.

Can I rent additional accessories?

There are many options and accessories available to help make your trip safer, more comfortable and enjoyable. From mobile phones to baby seats, snow chains, bike racks and roof racks, Smart Choice offers a variety of special equipment to make you travel easier. Ask an Smart Choice representative for assistance or include your requests in the reservations form.

What is your refueling policy?

A full tank of gas is supplied with every rental upon delivery. Smart Choice does not have a refueling service charge, however the gasoline consumption is payable by the renter. May we suggest all rentals be returned with a full tank of gas in order to simplify the return process of the vehicle.

Do you offer vehicles for handicapped drivers?

Smart Choice Greece is working on accommodating handicapped drivers. We have successfully worked with the speech-impaired; however, we do not have vehicles available to facilitate individuals with kinetic disabilities. For more information or requests for individuals with special needs, please do not hesitate to contact us with your needs.

What is offered in your rental rates and please explain the difference between a Basic rate and an All-Inclusive rental rate?

Basic rates include unlimited kilometres, mandatory public liability insurance, fire insurance and the value added tax of 24%. Inclusive rates include unlimited kilometres, mandatory public liability insurance, fire insurance, collision damage waiver (CDW) insurance with a non-waivable deductible, theft protection (TP) and the value added tax of 24%.

What should I do if I am involved in an accident?

In the unlikely event that you are involved in an accident try not to panic make sure everyone is ok first. You must contact the local police and your car hire company immediately the police must arrive at the scene as they will file an accident report form for state authorities that you will have to sign. Obtain as much information as possible about the other vehicle and driver for instance his/her name, registration number etc. If the collision involves bodily injury you must report the accident to the local police. (The police will visit the accident location for an examination of the statements from where the accident accrued) The driver must complete and file any accident reports required by the local or state authorities in addition; the driver is required to complete a smart car hire accident report for insurance purposes. The report is for both parties protection, and is particularly important if you have purchased a waiver of damage (C.D.W) Be aware that statements you make may be made a permanent part of the accident report .It is important to be truthful and accurate as your statements may be used in legal claims.

What should I do if my vehicle breaks down?

In the event of a rental breakdown please contact Smart Choice at (+30) 26610 97677 so that an immediate road assistance is provided. Be aware of your location as you will need to communicate this to the assistance service provided.

Can I add an additional driver?

The minimum age and driving licence requirements apply for the additional drivers. Additional driver licence must be presented as of rental to add name and details on the rental agreement. For every additional driver, fee applies.
All additional drivers will be covered by the insurance.

How do I make a reservation?

Request a rental quote by using our on-line reservation form and take advantage of our internet-only specials. Fill in your request and details in the form and you will receive a rental rate quote along with the terms and insurance coverage's of the offer. The process is clear-cut and is completed with the least amount of hassle.

How do I change, review or cancel my reservation?

You can change, review or cancel your reservation on-line via e-mail. To change any aspect of your reservation after receiving a confirmation e-mail, please contact Smart Choice at [email protected]. Please remember that changing the dates, location, type and class of vehicle may change the rate of your reservation. There is no charge for canceled or changed reservations. If you make a cancellation please do so 72 hours prior to scheduled rental pick-up time. We appreciate your professional courtesy.

How do I extend my rental?

To extend your rental please contact Smart Choice at (+30) 26610 97677 prior to your arranged rental return date. Any changes in your rental return date may change the rate. There is no extra fee for extending your rental. If in the event you wish to extend the rental period please do so in time so as to help ensure that all other customers will have their reserved car available upon their arrival. If in the case the specific rental is needed, a replacement vehicle will be arranged.

What is the standard rental period and what time do I have to return the car?

A standard rental day is calculated on a 24hour basis also the charge for optional insurance and waivers are applied on 24hour basis. Returning the car after or even before the designated time might affect the rate quoted. We do give a one-hour period with no extra charge.However should you exceed the one hour grace period additional charges may apply.

What is the minimum rental period?

The minimum rental period (for prebooked only) is 3 days. In the event a client has the rental for 1 or 2 days and requests to return it, a three-day minimum rental rate will be charged.

Do I need a commercial license for a minivan rental?

No, a commercial driver’s license is not needed for renting a minivan. The minivans available from Smart Choice requires a standard driver’s license.

What is the policy for one-way rentals?

One-way rentals are not provided by Smart Choice . All rentals must be returned to the region of Corfu.

Can I transport the rental on a ferry boat to an island?

An advance written authorization from Smart Choice Greece is required. You may request the document when you make your reservation; you will receive the document at the time of arrival/delivery .

What is Smart Choice's policy regarding one-way rentals between countries in Europe and travel through Europe?

Smart Choice does not offer a one-way rental program between European countries. It is strictly forbidden to travel outside Greek borders with an Smart Choice rent a car.

How do I receive the rental car upon arrival in Corfu Island?

Upon landing at Corfu International Airport you will reclaim your baggage and exit to Immigrations for passport control (not required for passengers traveling from Intra-Schengen Countries). You will exit from one of the two main terminals Terminal A (Extra-Schengen) or Terminal B (Intra-Schengen) into the Arrival Hall (greeting area). Your surname will be posted on an Smart Choice Rent a Car Reservations sign whereby a representative of Smart Choice will assist you with your rental. Check out will be done directly from the Airport and will take no more than 5 minutes for you to be on your way.

When I am being charged a 20 Euro surcharge?

Whether it be a holiday, a distant location or an odd hour, Smart Choice Rent a Car, makes it possible for you to receive your rental on time and at the destination you request. This service has a surcharge of 20 Euro that is added to your total rental amount. All after-hour surcharge funds are distributed amongst the individual employees that work overtime to make sure that you are satisfied and encounter the least amount of hassle possible during your rental experience. This charge is clarified prior to confirming your reservation.

Does Smart Choice Rent a Car have a counter at the Airport?

Our airport location operates off-terminal at a nearby location. Rent a car companies with counters at the airport terminal require a time consuming shuttle trip to take you to their car lot. By operating our rental counter off terminal, Smart Choice has greatly reduced costs (for example: "no charge" 13% airport tax), and this reduction is then passed along to you. When you confirm your reservation, you will receive a rental confirmation by e-mail with instructions and further contact information. We serve you with a “no” waiting policy 24- hours every day. We bring the rental to you! We do not have time consuming shuttle trips or long walks and waiting to receive your rental. We have your convenience in mind!

If I make a reservation at this site, what charges do I incur and does Smart Choice require a Credit Card for confirmation?

This website will require you to post 30% of your total charges against your credit, for your booking confirmation. When you arrive at your rental destination, you will complete the financial transaction with an Smart Choice representative for the remaining of your total balance.

What is your vehicle hold policy?

Smart Choice will hold a reservation for 90 minutes after the reserved time specified by the client. After this time the reservation will be considered cancelled and marked as a No Show. If your delay is due to airport procedures, (lost baggage etc.) please make sure to notify Smart Choice so that the reservation will be considered active.

How can I get the very best car rental deal?

Do I need a Credit Card in order to rent a car?

You can always pay by cash. However, If you want to pay with credit card, a valid credit card in the name of the renter and any associated extra drivers must be presented at the start of the rental period. Smart Choice does not accept debit cards, checks or cash cards as credit identification.

If a traffic violation has been given during the rental, am I responsible?

Tickets and attached administrative sanctions resulting from any violation of the Greek Traffic law during the rental period, is solely the renter's responsibility. If any such administrative sanctions are not disclosed to Smart Choice at the end of the rental period the violations will be paid via renter's credit card and a receipt will be sent by post.

What is your policy for "No Show" reservations, how are they handled?

In the case of a renter "No Show", the reservation will be cancelled. As you know, Smart Choice Rent a Car does not request that individuals supply their credit card number while making a reservation online, as do most of other rental companies. Smart Choice does not charge for last minute cancellations or a change in rental date. We do ask potential customers who make a booking online, value our flexible booking service and be sure to notify Smart Choice of the cancellation. We appreciate your courtesy towards our company and our policy. As a result of a "No Show" and no attempt to contact Smart Choice, the name of the renter will be added to the official rent a car black list for all of Greece, due to making false reservations. The individual will encounter a problem when attempting to reserve a rental in the future with any and all other car rental companies.

What is your information submittal privacy policy?

We respect your privacy! We never sell, barter, lend, give, or trade your e-mail address, name, or birthday to any business or entity for any reason. All information you enter in the rental form remains strictly confidential. You will not receive unsolicited e-mail (spam) from us or anybody else as a result of including your personal information for the rental service.

In the event that I have to return the car before the confirmed rental period will I be charged the full amount?

No, Smart Choice understands that often due to personal reasons, your vacation/business trip might be cut short. We adjust the rate according to the days that you have the rental in your possession. Nothing more is charged!

What happens if the booked car does not fit my luggage?

It is important to choose the size of car which is appropriate for your party. Parties of 4 or more must check with us as to the suitability of there intended rental (e.g. number of persons, luggage etc). We recommend that the capacity of the car hired should be appropriate for the number in your party. The relatively small extra cost for a larger car ensures you extra comfort, as well as extra capacity for luggage and beach items.
